# Connections

Connect coding agents, AI models, apps and automations to your notes. Each one has a name, its own access and a record of what it did.

## Ways to connect

| Kind | Use it for |
|---|---|
| [Apps](https://thread.page/help/connections/apps.md) | Chat apps like Claude and ChatGPT that read and add your notes. |
| [Coding agents](https://thread.page/help/connections/coding-agents.md) | Claude Code or Codex on your computer. @ one in a thread to give it work. |
| [AI models](https://thread.page/help/connections/ai-models.md) | Claude or GPT with your own API key. @ it in a thread and it answers with a note. |
| [Automations](https://thread.page/help/connections/automations.md) | Bring updates in from other apps, and send notes you @ to your workflows. |

Each connection has one name. A name with @, such as @Claude, is one you can write in a note to send it that note.

A free account lets apps, coding agents and scripts add notes to your Inbox, up to 3,000 a month. They can’t read your notes. Pro with Sync lets them read and work in your threads, and adds AI models and automations: **Add notes from another app** and **Send notes you @ to a URL**.

## Choose access

Apps, coding agents and scripts each have one of five levels. **Edit and organize** reads, adds and edits notes, and organizes threads and folders, including Archive and Trash; it can’t delete permanently. **Read and add**, an app’s default, reads and searches notes, adds notes, threads and reminders, and changes or moves to Trash only the notes it added. **Read only** reads and searches notes, including earlier versions, without changes. **Add only** adds notes to threads you choose and sees their titles, without reading notes. **Add to Inbox** only adds notes to your Inbox; it is the access a free account has.

A URL that adds notes from another app stays on **Add only** for its one thread. A webhook you @ reads only the note you send it.

[Access levels](https://thread.page/help/connections/access.md) explains each one and what is never included.

## The Inbox

With a free account, notes from connections arrive in the browser that collects them: the one where you created your first connection, or the one where you choose **Collect here** in Settings → Connections. Until then they wait for up to 30 days, then they are removed. If that browser stays closed for a week while notes wait, the next browser you open collects them.

Disconnecting a connection removes the notes it added that still wait for a browser to collect them. **Replace token…** keeps them.

The Inbox is an ordinary thread. Move it to Trash or delete it, and the next note starts a new Inbox; archive it, and the next note brings it back.

With Pro and Sync, notes from connections go straight to the Inbox in your account, with no monthly limit. When Pro ends, connections that can add notes add them to your Inbox again, without reconnecting.

## Pause, change or disconnect

Open an app, coding agent, AI model or script in **Settings → Connections** and choose **Manage access** to narrow or widen what it can do. Widening asks you to confirm it’s you.

**Pause** stops a connection from reading and adding notes until you choose **Resume**. Notes you send it with @ meanwhile wait and reach it when you resume.

A token works for 30, 90 or 365 days, as you choose when you create it, and for up to 90 days on **Edit and organize**. A token unused for 90 days stops working. Seven days before it stops, ThreadPage reminds you.

**Renew** keeps the same token working for a new term. **Replace token…** makes a new token and stops the old one at once. **Disconnect…** stops the connection and everything it uses at once.

## Review and undo

Open a connection’s **Recent activity** to see what it read and changed, or **Activity** from a thread’s actions to review that thread.

A note a connection added shows **Added via** and its name; one a connection changed last shows **Edited via** and its name.

Recent activity of a connection lists what it did. **Undo changes…** undoes its changes over a period you choose, where nothing changed them since, and **Restore from Trash…** brings back what it moved to Trash. If something looks unusual, ThreadPage emails you once a day at most and the connection shows **Check activity**.

## Files in notes

A level that reads notes also reads the files in them.
