# A Notion alternative for personal projects

ThreadPage is a notes app for one person’s projects: each project is a thread, and each time you work on it you add a dated note. You start writing in the browser, with no account and no workspace to set up first, and Import brings your Notion pages across.

## At a glance

- **To start:** Open thread.page, name the project and write the first note.
- **Keeps:** Each project as a thread of dated notes, marked Active, Waiting or Done.
- **Moving over:** Import reads Notion’s HTML export of your workspace; databases arrive as tables.
- **Plan:** Free · In your browser, with no account. Pro, from USD 7.99 a month, adds sync, sharing and connections.

## Which one fits you

### Stay with Notion if

- you want databases, templates and wikis, or a workspace for a team;
- you share pages with guests, who comment or edit;
- you already connect Claude or ChatGPT through Notion’s own MCP server;
- you want AI built into the app.

### Try ThreadPage if

- you run a few personal or side projects and mostly need to know where each one stands;
- you’d rather write than design a system first;
- you want a notes app with no AI of its own that works offline in the browser;
- with Pro, you want Claude, ChatGPT or Codex to read one project’s notes, and only that project’s.

## Before

You set up a Notion workspace to plan your move to Lisbon: a database of tasks, a status for each, a page per neighborhood. Three weeks later your decisions are spread across five pages. To find out why you chose the flat in Alfama over the one near the office, you open each page and piece the order together from edit dates.

## Why a thread, not a workspace of pages

### You start with the first note

Open a thread, name the project and write. There’s nothing to design before you begin.

### Each note is dated and added at the end

You read the project in the order it happened, and the newest decision is the last note.

### Several projects side by side

Columns shows a few projects next to each other, each with its latest notes, and Waiting tells you which ones wait on someone.

### Claude, ChatGPT or Codex get that project only

Notion’s MCP server works with your full workspace permissions. With ThreadPage Pro, you give each one a folder or a thread, and each note it adds says which connection added it.

## A thread, over time

Your workspace starts empty.

### Moving to Lisbon

Personal · Active

#### Sat 24 Oct

*Why, written down the day you decided.*

**You** · 10:30

Goal: move by February. We rent first and buy later, because we don’t know the neighbourhoods yet.

#### Sun 25 Oct

*The plan is a checklist in the note.*

**You** · 15:10

This week:

- [x] Book two viewings
- [ ] Ask the bank about the transfer
- [ ] Find the cat’s vaccination papers

#### Tue 27 Oct

*Both viewings, with a photo.*

**You** · 21:40

[Image: Photo of the flat in Alfama, taken at the viewing]

Alfama: bright, 900 euros a month, third floor without a lift. The flat near the office is bigger, but it faces the motorway.

#### Wed 28 Oct

*The choice and its reason, a month before anyone asks.*

**You** · 22:05

Decided: Alfama, because we can walk everywhere and the office is 20 minutes away by tram. Next: send the landlord our documents and ask about the cat.

## Where Notion is better

- Databases, templates, wikis and team workspaces.
- Apps for Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android, with your pages in Notion’s cloud on every plan.
- Guests comment on a page as well as edit it.
- Its MCP server works on every plan; Claude, ChatGPT or Codex read your ThreadPage notes only with Pro.
- AI inside the app.

## Moving your notes over

In Notion, export your workspace as HTML. In ThreadPage, open Settings → Import & export → Import notes and choose the ZIP.

Pages with subpages become folders, other pages become threads, and databases become tables; files and links between pages come across. Comments, page icons, covers and database views stay in Notion. The export is read in your browser and never sent to ThreadPage.

From then on, add a note each time you work on a project. [Import from Notion](https://thread.page/help/import.md#notion)

## Questions

### Does ThreadPage have AI?

Only what you connect. ThreadPage has no AI of its own and does not use your notes to train AI models. With Pro, Claude, ChatGPT, Codex and Claude Code can read your notes and add to them on your plans with them, or you can ask Claude or GPT in a thread with your own API key.

### Does it work offline?

Yes, in the browser itself: once ThreadPage has opened, you keep writing without internet. On Free, your notes stay in that browser; with Pro, they sync when you’re back online.

### Is ThreadPage a project management tool?

No. There are no assignees or due dates. Checklists live inside notes, a thread has a status such as Active, Waiting or Done, and a reminder can bring a thread back on a day you choose.

### Can I use ThreadPage with Claude, ChatGPT or Codex?

Yes. With Pro or its 14-day trial, they connect over MCP with a sign-in in the browser, and you choose how much they can do and which folders and threads they reach. With a free account, they can only add notes to your Inbox.

### Is ThreadPage free?

Yes. Free has no time limit and needs no account. Pro adds sync, sharing and connections for USD 7.99 a month or USD 79.99 a year with 5 GB of storage, taxes included, and you can try it free for 14 days without a card.

## Limits

- Without Pro, your notes stay in one browser and don’t sync.
- The app isn’t open source, and you can’t host it yourself.

Notion, Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Claude Code, Mac, Windows, iPhone, Android, and Linux are the names of their owners. ThreadPage is independent and not affiliated with or endorsed by them.
